Undocumented 10-Year-Old Girl Detained after Undergoing Emergency Surgery
A 10-year-old girl was recently detained by immigration enforcement agents after being discharged from a children’s hospital. The girl, Rosa Maria Hernandez, was being transported by her cousin to Driscoll Children’s Hospital when they passed through a Customs and Border checkpoint. Immigration agents allowed the two to proceed but followed them to the hospital.
Policy Change Makes It More Difficult to Renew U.S. Non-Immigrant Visas
Under a policy change announced by USCIS on Oct. 23, renewals of non-immigrant visas will undergo the same scrutiny as first-time applications. Before the policy update, officers could give deference to findings in previously approved applications when deciding on renewals, but now, even if the beneficiary and petitioner are unchanged, officers must treat extension requests the same as new applications.

It is now widely known that arrests of undocumented immigrants in the United States have been much higher under the Trump Administration. In fact, in the first half of 2017, arrest rates were nearly 40 percent higher compared to the first half of 2016.
Trump’s At It Again: New Travel Ban Affects 3 Additional Countries
President Trump has issued a new travel ban that restricts or bars immigration from eight countries. A report from ABC News points out several key differences between the most recent ban and the travel ban that went into effect in June—for instance, three more counties (North Korea, Venezuela, and Chad) will be affected by the new ban, restrictions on Sudan have been lifted, the specific limitations and restrictions vary by country.
